CV

Profile

My artwork takes inspiration from an array of things, often drawing back on experiences and emotions, as well as nature, found textures and patterns. I work with various techniques, such as photography, drawing, printing and ceramics; these are often combined to create artworks. Most of my work draws back on experiences within my life, creating a metaphorical expression of these observations. My working processes incorporate research and testing, to explore ways of mimicking aspects of the subject matter. The joyful exploration through making contains surprise elements, starting with a material, which when manipulated becomes something extraordinary and beautiful. Within my ceramic work the constant transformations through making/firing is adding an additional aspect of excitement.

Other Interests

I take great pleasure in most creative activities, such as drawing, painting, ceramics, print making, and sculpture. I love travelling, and in the last twenty years have visited places in Africa, South East Asia, Europe, America and Australasia. This experience has broadened my perception and appreciation of cultural diversity. I enjoy further studies/research through art exhibitions, workshops and seminars.

Artist statement

‘The world is pregnant with possibility’

My artwork takes inspiration from an array of things, often drawing on personal experiences and emotions, as well as the organic quality of nature, found textures and patterns. Reflecting on these emotional experiences of places or events within my life, the artwork becomes a metaphorical expression of these experiences. A variety of mediums, such as photography, drawing, printing and ceramics are used and often combined to create artworks. My process is to research, test and explore ways to create aspects of the subject matter. The transformation through making and then firing of the ceramic work adds an additional aspect of excitement.
